Jai Singh Khalsa
June 4, 1954 – August 15, 2022
Jai Singh Khalsa grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and went on to earn his Master of Architecture degree from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), continuing his family’s legacy as a third-generation architect. In 1985, he founded Khalsa Design, Inc., bringing together a diverse and talented team of architects and designers united by a shared vision of creating modern, environmentally responsible, and sustainable buildings.
Beyond his accomplishments as an architect and visionary, Jai Singh was an exceptional mentor, teacher, and source of inspiration to countless individuals, both within and beyond the firm. His influence extended far beyond the buildings he designed, leaving a lasting mark on the landscapes of cities and towns and, more importantly, on the lives and careers of those fortunate enough to know and work with him.
He will be remembered not only for his remarkable intelligence and architectural vision, but also for his calm presence, kindness, wonderful sense of humour, and genuine generosity of spirit. To those who had the privilege of learning from him, he was much more than a colleague or mentor – he was an extraordinary human being whose wisdom, character, and legacy will continue to inspire for generations to come.
Khalsa Design Inc. (Ontario, Canada) was established in 2015 as an extension to continue the vision and legacy of Jai Singh Khalsa. The firm is committed to shaping vibrant, sustainable communities through thoughtful design and close collaboration with developers, municipal officials, and community stakeholders throughout Ontario. KDI brings together a multidisciplinary team of talented designers and architects, combining diverse expertise, creative vision, and a shared commitment to design excellence. The firm’s experience spans new construction, building renovations, the adaptive reuse of historic structures, and advanced computer-generated architectural visualization.
